As I’m sharing this today, it is absolutely thundering and raining. The wind is blowing, cats, dogs, cows, and the kitchen sink. Almost anything you could think of is coming down from the sky.
We have complete and total dark over head as I’m sharing this. And it got me thinking, this is the best time to go see houses. Why? Because now, you get to see what really happens of how a property takes in water.
Moisture is, in general, one of the worst things that can get into a house. Water, just as we all know, causes all sorts of problems. So anytime we looked at a property that we’re considering buying, it’s always great if you have the opportunity to see how it performs in the middle of a rainstorm. If it stays dry, that’s great. If the crawl space stays dry, that’s great. If your basement stays dry, that’s great. If you see water getting into the house, not so great. And usually, a small drip can turn into an avalanche of water, sometimes or somewhat quickly, depending on the nature of the problem.
So the next time you have crazy rain, instead of thinking, “I don’t want to go out in the rain,” make every appointment you can because oftentimes, that is the best time to see what exactly it is you’re investing in, and it could save you a ton of money later, not to mention, get you many bargaining chips and leverage at the negotiation table.
Happy investing!
